JAKe

JAKe was born in Hull and is an award-nominated graphic artist, concept designer, animation director and published author, based in London. He has worked at Detonator Studio and with other creative agencies for clients worldwide, including The Guardian, the BBC, SYFY, Disney, XL Recordings, Fatboy Slim, Sugar Hill Records, and Carhartt. It was his iconic work for the Prodigy on The Fat of The Land LP that first brought him to the attention of an international audience. A long and varied career has seen him design toys and direct animation, as well as work with Lucasfilm on the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. His art for Lucasfilm’s style guides has appeared on a huge range of externally licensed merchandise, which has been reproduced worldwide, the most recent examples of which are stocked in official Disney stores. He has designed the visual language and established the style of several original IPs, including the multimedia project Adventures of a Reluctant Superhero, as well as reinventing legacy IPs for Gerry Anderson Entertainment. He has extensive experience of creating key art and marketing illustrations for product pitches and packaging, and is particularly adept at character design, concept work, and collaborative storytelling. He has drawn and written comics for The Mighty Boosh, Sony Playstation, Doctor Who, The Observer, Motorola, Hip Hop Immortals and The Official Chart Company. His graphic novel with Robert Sellers, Hellraisers, was critically acclaimed, and his other books include bestsellers How To Speak Wookiee and How To Speak Droid with R2-D2, How To Speak Astromech with BB-8 and The Mammoth Book Of Street Art. He is fluent in Wookiee, but with a strong northern English accent, but would never do a Jedi mind trick to make you follow him on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook: @jakedetonator
