
Renee Witterstaetter is a writer, editor, color artist, agent and publisher with work ranging from novels to comic books to movie tie-ins. In addition to her other endeavors, Renee is a member of the Museum and Art Committee at Fraunces Tavern Museum in lower New York, owned and operated by the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York.
As an exhibition curator her most recent installation, “Cloaked Crusader: George Washington in Comics and Pop Culture,” ran for almost three years at Fraunces Tavern, ending early 2025. Her current book “Cloaked Crusader: George Washington in Comics and Pop Culture,” presents this successful show in book form.
As an editor at DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Topps Comics, her other work spans such pop culture iconic titles as “Superman,” “Barbie,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Hercules,” “Xena,” “X-Files,” “Conan,” “She-Hulk,” and “Jurassic Park,” with many of her projects and storylines being made into movies and television shows. As a film professional, she has also worked on such movies as “Red Dragon” and “Rush Hour 2,” while also behind the scenes, racking up credits on dozens of music videos and commercials for artists as diverse as Madonna, Seal and Usher.
Her other books as a writer include: “Dying for Action: The Life and Films of Jackie Chan,” “Nick Cardy: The Artist at War,” “Excess: The Art of Michael Golden,” “Nick Cardy: Wit-Lash,” “Art of the Barbarian,” and her children’s book “Kerry and the Scary Things.”
Renee has curated gallery shows and lectured on the entertainment industry worldwide.
Her most recent project is the short film, “It Happened Here,” which she both wrote and produced, about the rich history of Fraunces Tavern, its owner Samuel Fraunces, George Washington and their unique– revolutionary— friendship.
